[Abstract] Presentation: Digital Innovation enabling SME to tackle public healthcare issues – Case study in Europe
Healthcare sector in France is about to go through a major disruption.
The current French healthcare system has been found in 1946 on a strong principle of public/private healthcare insurance covering mostly all the healthcare fees for all the population. Since that, the sector has been evolved in a quite continuous incremental way, within a paradigm of the cure above all, which has consecrated the hospitals and the medical doctors as the two master pieces leading the system. The model has become more and more efficient, succeeding in its mission of curing sick people and helping the country to low it mortality rates and developing at the same time major companies in pharmaceutical industry, union, private hospitals, etc.
But for about 20 years, the model has been proved also that it has failed to be sustainable. The reason is quite simple, and could have been predicted: the more you care people and you lower the country’s death rate, the more mechanically you generate population with chronic diseases and you need heavy money to carry the weight of your healthcare system.
This major public healthcare issue threatens potentially all the system to collapse if nothing is done. That require reinventing the business model, but also the way we care in France passing from a curative centric model, to a preventive one.
Digital innovations are one of the best ways to tackle that problem. With the big data and AI technology enabling to predict situations, you can help population to avoid disease. You switch between a pathological way to make public healthcare, to a population way, based on individualized behaviors recommendations, with a typical user centered design coming from the digital culture.
That the new challenge for lot of innovative SME in France and also in Europe, which are trying to redefine and disrupt currently one of the biggest market in the world: healthcare.
